T'au Empire: The Twin Lance (Warhammer 40,000)
The T'au have always been masters of the long-range killing shot. The Twin Lance — Shas'ri Locai and Shas'ri Lantar, known as Exemplar Sunsear and Exemplar Scatterflare — throw that reputation out the window entirely. These two legendary battlesuit pilots thrive at close range, using jet-assisted bounds to close the gap, unleash punishing firepower, and discharge kinetic shockwaves from their neocapacitor shields before retreating before the enemy can respond.
On the tabletop, the Twin Lance are widely considered one of the strongest new units released for T'au Empire in 11th edition. Two Epic Heroes in a single unit with Toughness 6, 16 combined wounds, a 2+/4++ save profile, Scout 8", and Deep Strike — they are difficult to ignore and even harder to remove. Their Exemplars of Mont'ka ability grants Sustained Hits 1 and Ignores Cover on ranged attacks targeting the closest enemy unit, rewarding aggressive positioning. The Neocapacitor Shields rule forces a Battleshock test and subtracts 1" from charge rolls on a nearby enemy unit at the start of your opponent's Charge phase — a powerful charge-disruption tool that has utility across nearly every matchup. Retro-thrusters allow a Normal move or Fall Back at the end of the Fight phase, enabling bully charges and slingshot repositioning that opens up significant mobility options.
